Find the Medicare Health Plan for You
DAY 3 OF 4
want your health coverage and prescription drug coverage under one plan
want additional benefits that Original Medical does not include
want a yearly maximum on what you pay out of pocket
want a plan that includes services for durable medical equipment such as a walker or wheelchair or diabetic monitoring, in addition to outpatient services
prefer a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan, a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan, or a Special Needs Plan (SNP)
They only cover emergency or urgent care services outside the state where you enroll, unlike the nationwide coverage that Original Medicare offers.
You can't enroll in a Medicare Supplement (aka Medigap) plan and a Medicare Advantage plan at the same time. Medigap plans can be combined with Original Medicare to help with your out-of-pocket cost.
Most Medicare Advantage plans include prescription coverage, but not all of them.
ONE THING YOU CAN DO TODAY

Make a list of your current healthcare needs. Consider things like medications, procedures, and other services.
Consider any new healthcare needs that may arise in the coming year. If you have a chronic health condition or are at high risk for developing a certain condition, you may require more frequent care.
Find out if your primary care doctor is in the plan's network. Some Medicare plans don't cover out-of-network healthcare professionals, which means you'll be left paying the full cost of those services.
Contact your doctors and check to see which Medicare plans they accept. This is called "accepting assignment."
Make a healthcare budget. Between premiums, deductibles, and fees for services, Medicare costs can quickly add up. If your income is limited or fixed, look into financial assistance programs that may help.
