In a Nutshell
Inflammation has a worse reputation than it deserves. The heat you feel around a cut, the fever you endure that helps your body fight an infection, that’s inflammation doing what it does best — helping you recover.

It’s the chronic variety of inflammation that can cause problems. A low, slow burn that lingers for years with nothing to heal can quietly increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. It’s worth keeping this kind of inflammation in check, and a handful of supplements can help with that.

Anti-inflammatory supplements worth your time
Diet, sleep, and movement remain the front line against chronic inflammation, but some supplements also show potential.
🫚 Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, shows consistent benefit for the inflammation behind osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and a 2025 review found it lowered key inflammatory markers in people with knee osteoarthritis. About 500 milligrams (mg) a day sits within safe limits.
🍇 Resveratrol is an antioxidant found in grapes, blueberries, and red wine, though a capsule contains far more than any of these sources. In one trial, people with ulcerative colitis taking 500 mg daily reported less inflammation and better quality of life over six weeks. Most supplements provide 150 to 500 mg per serving with few reported side effects.
🦠 Spirulina, a blue-green algae, is a potent antioxidant. A 2025 study found it reduced pro-inflammatory markers in people with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. It dissolves into a smoothie, and up to 8 grams (g) a day is considered safe.
⚠️ Anyone with an autoimmune condition should avoid spirulina, since it may stimulate the immune system and worsen symptoms.
🍍 Bromelain is the enzyme that gives pineapple its bite. There is less evidence from human studies to support it, but recent research found bromelain improved pain and quality of life after surgery with fewer side effects compared to diclofenac, but only from 12 hours after surgery — diclofenac was better for instant relief. It can also ease swelling after wisdom-tooth surgery, according to a 2019 review. Supplements commonly supply a few hundred milligrams per serving.
🍵 Green tea extract concentrates EGCG, an antioxidant that shields cells from the oxidative damage feeding inflammation. In a 2020 trial, overweight men taking 500 mg daily alongside regular exercise showed greater reductions in inflammation than exercise alone. Most extracts contain caffeine unless the label says otherwise, so timing matters for anyone protective of their sleep.
Before taking any of these supplements, speak with your doctor, particularly if you have any existing conditions or are taking any medications. Then choose a certified Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) manufacturer with third-party testing, and follow the dose on the packet.
